Our project seeks to make optimal use of the exceptional view enjoyed by the site over the footprint of the Gare de l’Est railway sidings and to treat the corner of the two streets continuously, in the manner of a folding facade.
The building is organised in three stripes perpendicular to the main facade. The central band houses the vertical circulations and landing loggias, which offer an unbroken view and a communal extension to the dwellings. The two lateral bands house the dwellings ; a bay contains the small dwellings, another the large dwellings, featuring an overlapping duplex design.
The concrete structural system (perimeter walls and supporting facade comprised of poles and window-basement beams) enables large spans, and eliminates the need for any intermediate supporting points in the dwellings. The facade is composed of exposed concrete cells, on which sliding aluminium frames alternate with opaque stainless-steel panels. These elements are flush-fitted to the exterior face of the concrete facades to reinforce the monolithic reading of the building.
