an overlapping site
The “4 Chemins” area is an overlapping site, where commercial and residential activities coexist, but also a site where we find different kind of residential typologies. The general height distribution of our project, the thickness of the buildings, their orientations are therefore conceived with the goal of making a unitary environment while taking into account the different aspects of the site.
residential network
At the scale of the two blocks, the organization principles aim to inscribe the various buildings in the network of public spaces of the district, and to subdivide the whole compound in appropriable units. This residential network reinforces the division of the operation into five residences, which gather from 20 to 80 dwellings according to their size. Each of these residences is organized around a central garden and brings together a variety of housing typologies.
urban stratification
The third structuring field of our project concerns its long-term evolution and its organization in section. In order to reinforce the public dynamics of the operation, the two lower levels are organized on similar constructive and distributive principles. The shops independent accesses logic is thus extended to all dwellings in these lower levels, providing a multitude of interfaces between private and public spaces. The unitary character of this low stratum is reinforced by a structural principle which allows a great mutability of these spaces in the long term (load bearing posts and beams and light facades in wooden frame).
typological diversity
In order to adress the diversity of situations, and to offer a wide range of living conditions, two families of buildings are proposed (collective and intermediate), each with three distinct typologies. Six types thus alternate within the compound, the organization of each responding to particular contextual constraints.
